I remember when I was a kid. When my chrome bicycle wheels would rust. SOS pads and a bit of elbow grease. New again...
Not this time. My 77 has no rust anywhere else, but the wheels are beyond repair. Have any of you ever sandblasted them?
Yes...I grit-blasted the steel rims inside and out (never was fond of the "Green Tint").
Now the rims are Satin Black and easy to touch-up when needed.
The rims will get "re-blasted and re-painted Satin Black" at the next tire replacement.
I sandblasted and repainted my 68 rims over 10 years ago and they still look great.
Sandblasting gets all the rust and crud off and makes nice base for repainting.
If you don't have access to a sandblaster, often the places that sell cemetary headstones will do it for a small fee.
