I have a 71 convertible (red photos) that was hit in the right door area years ago. The door was replaced by a coupe door, and the area with the door striker pin was damaged and replaced, along with the lower quarter panel, replaced at the bonding strip. There is no rectangular hole in the door for the tapered receiver for the door alignment pin, and as you can see looking into the wheel well in front of the wheel opening, there is fiberglass missing from that area.
In order to rectify this, I acquired a replacement convertible door, no problem, and have now acquired a rear clip with good parts in that area. (silver pictures)
My question is this: What is the best way/place to separate the door striker area and lower rear quarter from each? I've had good results in the past with a heat gun and putty knife, but on this one I am not exactly where seams are around the striker area, and what is the best way to approach the removal? Help from someone who has actually accomplished this would be most appreciated!
TIA
I had a similar problem caused by corroded body mounts. I actually heard the loud crack when I hit a pothole.
It would be best to replace ANY questionable BODY mounts before doing any fiberglass work.
This will ensure a stress-free repair to the fiberglass.

Thanks. Body mounts are in excellent shape, so that’s a hurdle we don’t have to deal with.
