Looking for some help on the Viper 350HV alarm system with remote which is on the 1973 Corvette I just bought. The previous owner had a lousy stereo system in it with wiring that went all over the car, some of it exposed and looking bad. I've been removing the stereo system (mostly wires) and noticed a wire pair, one black wire and one red wire, that start at the battery and run all the way to the Viper control module under the dash near the fuse box. Said red wire has a 15a fuse (modern style). I'm hoping they just tapped into an always-hot or keyed-hot wire from the alarm system but fear it may be the power for the alarm system and have nothing to do with the stereo. It seems strange that Chevy would run the alarm hot and ground from the battery compartment. The alarm system works fine and I'd like to keep it that way if possible.
Note: I looked up the wiring on a stock 1973 Corvette anti-theft system and it's fairly simple and straightforward. But this Viper system has many more wires going into the module. Maybe a prior owner upgraded the anti-theft with a newer system with the keyless remote feature?
First of all who knows if the Viper Alarm in your Corvette is still able to function correctly. Go to The Viper web page and see if you can get a wiring schematic of your model. Is Viper still around? Had a Viper Alarm install on my daughters Cavalier back in the day. I recall a lot of wires going to a bunch of different things, so I had a radio installation shop do the work. The system worked good for 6 or so years, then she sold the car.
I have beeb advise that most alarm system are manufacture by the same company.
IF you can afford a new updated system with a long-range remote alarm , buy a new system. If the current system has a decent alarm range, make sure everything is working properly and continue using the current system.
All the "extra wires" are used to control engine On-Off System, electric door lock system, power window system, radio on-off, hood release system. etc.
Just make sure as other members advised you remove ALL old alarm system wires that could confuse you.
Test the engine On-Off system, hood release system/each individual door lock system/electric power window system, radio on-off system, etc. as you install them.

Thanks again Retrovet. I'm almost done removing the Viper 350 system but have run into a snag. The main module is removed as well as all the wires that leave the module and splice into the factory wiring. The only remnants of the Viper system is what I believe to be the starter relay. It has 4 wires: yellow, orange, green and black. It's definitely a Viper product and I will post a picture. When I unplug this relay from the square pigtail connector (not snipping any of the four wires) the car won't crank (start). This is weird because everything else from the Viper system has been removed yet I still "need" this relay circuit to start the car.
Hi
Follow rhe green and the black up to the splice. It separates the starter wire - purple. Just splice the purple back together. If you can not see it , you may splice the green and black together and eliminate the socket and relay. Do not attach the yellow - should be an ignition source - just tape it up
If your at the column wires you will see the purple wire cut and going to the socket wires. Just remove and reattach
Yellow may be connected to a pink wire. If so remove and tape the pink.
You should be fine after completing
I recently installed a Viper alarm in my 75 and just completed an installation in my 62 Beetle. The alarm's I prefer are fairy basic,I go through the alarm wiring harness and remove everything but the door trigger and siren wires. The black/red wires going to the battery are most likely the power for the alarm controller. I'll get the instructions here when I get a chance. The instructions are for a Viper 3606V but the basic wiring diagram should be the same as what you have in the car.
