I know I've seen a thread around here somewhere discussing this but can't find it now. The '75 I just bought is due to go to the mechanic this afternoon for a thorough inspection. The only thing I have noticed that needs specific attention is when I let off the pedal at highway speeds, the rear end twists just enough to make you crap your pants a bit then straightens out. Anybody know what the problem is or where that thread might be?
Have your mechanic thoroughly check the trailing arms where they connect to the frame. Most likely the shims fell out or the trailing arm bushings are shot. I hope the mechanic if familiar with the independent rear suspension of C-2 and C-3 cars. Jerry
Thanks. He specializes in 60-70's muscle cars and owns a number of Vets so I'm pretty sure he could have found it himself, but I wanted to at least sound like I know what I'm talking about.
I'm thinking if your mechanic owns a couple Vettes, hopefully old one's. He'll find it. Just tell him your having decell handling issues. Check all of the rear suspension closely. That'll be enough.
I'm a mechanic, I know I want to know your concern. I don't want you to tell me how to do my job.

I had that and it was loose struts....hopefully yours is an easy fix...mine didn't make any noise...do you get clunking before or after....are you wearing brown pants...now?
Mine did that after a wheel alignment. Rear end was squirrelly like that. They left out one eigth of an inch of the trailing arm shims on one side! Lou.
No noises or clunks when shifting. Trailing arm bushings are shot. I suspect they were replaced for poly at some point. Also replacing vacuum advance. Otherwise, he said it looks like a new(ish) car. thanks for all the replys guys.
Im in West Kentucky. Im thinking of tackling this myself. Are the ones at Top flight below rubber? They say OEM, but don't see if they say rubber or Poly. I looked on Ecklers but couldnt find the rear ones.

Well I'm gonna do it. I ordered the bushings, shims and one time use tool from Top Flight ($175 total w/shipping). I've watched several videos on how to do it so here goes. I won't be able to balance, but I'll put back the way I find it as far as spacing and see how it goes. I'll probably do a little painting on the arms while its all out. I'm stepping out a bit on my skills as a mechanic, but with the help of my good friend You Toob, I think we can get er done. Wish me luck.
