Default 1968 Wipers

I have done research on this topic and cannot figure out the reason for my issues. In topics I’ve read, there are posts for willcox troubleshooting but the link does not work anymore.

The wipers functioned properly in September. However, now they will not work with the switch or override ****. I can manually open the door with the vacuum pull down override.

The tac solenoid is constantly powered with the ignition off and wipe switch off. I am aware this is incorrect. If I keep the two prong electrical connection to the switch, the wiper door will remain open with the engine running. Once engine is off, the door is still open. My understanding is the brown wire is incorrectly powering the tac solenoid but I’m not sure where that problem is happening.

I have discovered the limited switch will cycle the blades one time then no longer work when toggled again. I did observe the linkage for this switch was no longer connected to the door. It has been repaired.

Summary, wiper motor is functional and new (68 correct period motor- three wire). The tac solenoid is getting power when it should not. I am not sure why. I have read the wiper switch could be improperly grounded. However, I am not sure how to test this. There is a detailed 20min video on this topic on YouTube. The video is not specific to 68 though.

Have you let the wipers complete a cycle without interruption? You need to do that first to get them in the proper standby condition.
You cannot start troubleshooting until you get them in the proper secured condition with the "tach" solenoid de-energized.
Let me find the writeup for that....gimme a few.

Thank you I will check it out tomorrow.

I’m not sure how you know a full cycle was completed as you described. I do know today when I hit the limited switch button manually, the blades did a full cycle then rested.

The limited switch would not allow that to happen again. At that moment, the tac solenoid was actually not energized until I toggled the wiper switch. Brought me back to square one because the tac solenoid is now energized again.

EDIT:
I just read your link. I do not have any activity when I use the wiper switch or override.

I appreciate the information you gave me. Everything clicked after I thought about it.

Like you said, my tac solenoid was energized because a cycle was disturbed. This resulted because the arm that toggles the limited switch was not connected to the linkage. I guess the screw backed itself out and disappeared.

I reconnected it and the wiper switch works again when I lift the wiper door. The tac solenoid is not energized anymore. I did this all with the engine off (no vac). I’ll confirm everything is fully functional after a drive later.
