Here is the complete list of suffix code "CD"s usage. Note that a "passenger car" below is any Chevrolet car except a Corvette.
1957 - 265/165 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car or light truck
1958 - 283/170 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
1959 - 283/170 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
1960 - 283/170 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
1961 - 283/170 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
1962 - 283/270 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
1963 - 283/195 2 bbl w/a 3 speed or OD in a passenger car
The "812" block was used for 283's from 62-66, so with a CD suffix code this engine could be a 62 or 63 2 bbl passenger car 283.
Knowing the casting date would help identify the engine. On the opposite side of the rear of the block from where the "812" casting number is will be the casting date. It will be made up of a letter for the month, one or two numbers for the day and one number for the year. A casting date of B213 would be a block cast on February (B) 21st (21) 1963 (3).
Lets us know what the casting date is and we should be to help you determine whether it's a 62 or 63 engine.
