Default Installing Engine & Trans together

For those of you that have installed their engine and transmission as one unit. Did install the transmission mount beforehand or wait until everything is in?

I'm thinking that i should leave it off to give more room for the transmission to slid in over the cross member.

I'm doing it as we speak...I leave everything off that will catch on the chassis and slide the assembly into place.....

The engine and transmission were in good shape internally so I degreased everything/sealed all holes with tape and sandblasted both units. I wiped them down with acetone and repainted the assembly.

I too installed as an engine/trans assembly (454/TH400) and left the crossmember out until the engine was on the mount horns and all looked good. It was pretty straight forward as long as your hoist can support the combined weight and you have a leveler attachment to help guide it into place. I believe I also lifted the rear of the car on jackstands to aid in getting the angle correct so the trans output end wasn't in danger of scraping along the driveway, but I am a little fuzzy on that detail.

I leave the mount off until everything is in place. Engine mounts first. Then trans.

if you can make your trans cross member removable life gets a lot easier as well. when Mine was non removable I did this all the time with my muncie attached...tried pulling the tranny by its self once...ONCE!!! it was such a pain in the *** and I was a lot stronger then and could press it in and out without a tranny jack cause you could get in there to do it otherwise....I have the Macs tilt and its so much better than the hand crank one
