Default Remote starter on a C3

This is my third project car but first Vette. My first two, ran when I got them. The Vette does not run. Since it’s just me, I bought a cheap remote starter to bump the engine, so I can find TDC. In the videos I’ve seen for remote starters, they hook up one side to the positive on the battery, That doesn’t work since our battery is inside the car behind the seat, How should I hook it up?

thanks,
BH

If this is just temporary, you could hook a jumper cable up to your battery +, and run out to the outside of the car and hook up to that.

Or if you have a spare battery, or a battery out of another vehicle...

Hopefully your remote start has a long enough cable/wires.

I generally hook a socket and breaker bar onto the crank bolt, and find TDC with the breaker bar. I have a remote start switch, but IDK if I've ever used it.

As mentioned above,
for testing I have alligator clipped a 10ft 14 gage wire from + battery terminal, to a simple switch(make sure it’s not a dinky milliamp switch) and then alligator clip to starter.
Easy and I spent zero dollars

Connect one clip to the main battery terminal and the other clip to the "S" terminal at the starter.

this, I've never hooked one up any other way. And I've never used YouTube to repair cars.

Just connect it to the starter. You have the move the electrons less than an inch. Two connections on the starter solenoid, with a switch in the engine compartment, should do it. Most of the car's power is pulled from there anyway, not directly from the battery.

Whether your first, or your 100th Corvette, a year-specific shop manual and assembly instruction manual are must-haves. In the meantime, here are some helpful wiring diagrams:

I’ve never had any training formal or otherwise. So YouTube videos along with advice of the good people on this forum, help me a lot.

As Bikespace mentioned already. A year specific gen GM Service manual and the AIM manual. These factory manuals have accurate information and repair instructions, exploded diagrams, etc.
You Tube Vid's can be helpful and can be full of miss information. Being armed with as much information as possible can not be a bad thing.

Just asking.
For 67 Corvette.
Before connecting to the large power terminal and the "S" terminal do you need to disconnect the battery?
And when cranking does the primary distributor lead from the negative coil need to be disconnected?
And does the ignition switch need to be in the "ON" position?

Good question.

For a pre-HEI Corvette, I think the R terminal is also hot when the solenoid is activated. So when cranking (only), the car may try to start, unless you disconnect the distributor.

If the ignition is ON, and you use the bypass switch, there is nothing stopping the car from starting.

Eventually you'll probably need to hook a socket up anyway if you want to get it 'right' at 0* TDC.

But a remote start sw does have it's place now and then. Glad you got it.
