Hello all first post on the board so nice to meet you. In the picture I have two pieces of ignition chrome shielding. The one on the lower is not as as the upper both of these claim to be NOS.
Does anybody know the reason for the variance. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Take a close look at some of the Corvette Suppliers Catalogs. You want to find a illustrated breakdown for Your Model Year. The restoration will not always show the Chevrolet part number, but you may be able to see the difference from the illustration. Each supplier will have a different or better illustration. If you have the Chevrolet part number you could looking Chevrolet Parts Manual. Welcome Aboard
These parts where "flash" plated. A rather thin, expensive plating. They were not properly show chrome plated. Or triple plated. Just a thin flash plating. Never intended to look great or look good for long.
GM wasn't making show cars, the finish on a lot of the parts they made, especially later service replacement ones, was often less than high quality. I've had a lot of NOS parts, like emblems and other things, that weren't half as nice as most repro's.
