Default 1969 Frame Help Needed

At some point in the history of our 1969 Coupe, someone cut or modified the forward area of the frame on our car which I am going to repair. The hole / cutout modification is on the outboard edge of the frame about 6" back from the bottom of the front door on both the LH and RH sides of the frame. Guessing someone added aftermarket side pipes to this car in the past and butchered the frame to attach the leading section of the side pipes.

Need your help. I am needing a couple of nice photographs of what a stock '69 frame should look like in this area. The rest of my frame is fine. Thank you in advance for the help.

Kevin

RH side, modification cutout located on the edge of the frame about 6 inches back from the bottom front of the passenger side door. Looks there was a factory hole in the center and then they cut both directions to fit their harware.

A little bit less of a bubba hack job on the LH side but in the same location about 6 inches back from the bottom front edge of the door. It looks like a factory hole is there and they just cut it bigger

It looks like this, in two locations (each side). I’ll take a full length photo tomorrow for you, it should put things in perspective.

Hey Stan,
That will be great. I included another photo, from the RH side but they are both similar LH and RH. If you could also get a nice close-up of the forward hole that would be helpful too. Friend of mine is also sending me a template in the mail so that I can repair the damage done in the past and make these areas of my frame look correct again. The template will help me locate the center for the round hole that is supposed to be in that forward location on the frame.

Kevin,

My 1969 frame is easily accessible so I would be able to get some decent photos for you tomorrow. I’ll make sure to throw a tape measure on the frame for reference.

9-12-2024 Update:
RH frame repair completed. Thank you Grant for the template to locate the hole openings. Will now sand the welded areas with 80 grit and then 180 grit. There are very slight depressions in the frame, may have to use a little body filler to level those out. Self etching primer and then 2 coats of semi-gloss black. Will try to post a final pick once all the holes are painted and done.

Stan - thanks for all the frame pics, big help.

Cut the frame to make room for the sections of flat stock, cut flat stock to fit the openings

Used magnets to hold the flat stock sections in place

tack weld the flat stock and remove magnets

finish welding the perimeter edges of the flat stock

grind and polish the welds, use a taper bit and circle template and fine point sharpie marker to get the 7/8" hole the right size and shape

9-28-2024 Update

Thought I would post the final pictures of the frame repair where the LH and RH forward rain drain holes were repaired. I'm a perfectionist and did not notice the slight indentatiion in front of the RF forward drain hole. Have to think about that more and decide whether to touch it up or just leave it and more on to the other hundred things on the list to do.
