Those areas are much more exposed to the air flowing underneath the car, it should dissipate heat much better than the cramped area of the transmission tunnel.
Unless you’ve got a big catalytic converter sitting directly underneath the floor pan I would go without it.
Can't speak for your year car but there were insulation panels in both of those locations for 68-69. The green and red locations also had a protective shield over the top of the insulation once the insulation panels were attached to the fiberglass. Hope this helps.
On my 71 with a LS swap I used DEI heat shield. It has sticky glue that makes it stick to the floor pan. Then about 3/16' fiber glass insulation and then kind of a waffle pattern I believe stainless outer layer. I used over the header/exhaust area. Worked great.
I used some stick on DEI heat shielding under my car and on the evaporator box inside of the engine compartment.
Dynamat inside the car.
Made a world of difference.

I had some of the ceramic Lizardskin left over from doing the interior floorboards/firewall and used it on the underside of the trans tunnel and both the red and green areas. I also added some of the stick-on DEI heat shielding to the front of the metal shields at your feet facing the engine.
Metal brackets all taped off Hadn't cleaned up the overspray yet.
I'll most likely end up putting the spray gun in the classifieds for passing around for those that want to use it (just pay the shipping to/from).
