Default Speedometer w/speed warning yes/no ?

Making my way down to the end of a very long to-do list 2-1/2 years running and I’m close enough to deal with the frozen odometer this winter.
My car is a numbers matching ‘68 convertible with an L68 but there was no documentation that came with the car. I can’t see the harm in adding small options to the car that it might/could have been ordered with. I know I could rebuild the speedometer thats in the car to make the odometer and trip meter work but the cost of a replacement speedometer isn’t that bad and it could save me some aggravation just swapping them out.
While I’m at it I’m thinking of adding the speed warning option. The speedo is available as is the wiring harness but the adjustment cable is supposedly made from unobtainium. That’s ok as I’ll just set it at a speed I’m not likely to hit that often. It’d be more something cool to look at. I’ll keep an eye out for that adjustment cable which one day will surface, things like that always do.
Wondering if this was an option that was intended for certain engine packages or was it available in all models ?
Anyone think of a reason I shouldn’t do this ?

Can't think of a reason not to. I'm like you and wish mine had one just cool to look at and a conversation point. Go for it even if the cable isn't available now.

I did it, everything works...cant hear it over my engine. I'm thinking of adding a light...I have mine just past 100 mph so I'm not tripping the relay all the time....very cool addition

I like the light idea.
I have the fuel pressure gauge on the column and it goes from white light to red if the pressure drops below 3 lbs. Had it out last Thursday night and while cruising about 70 I had someone riding my bumper. I dropped down a gear and put my foot to the floor. With all 6 barrels open and rpms up my eye caught the gauge flickering red. Seems it was on the edge of 3lbs. If you had a lamp for the speed warning you’d definitely see it.
I’d likely set it at a speed I’d never likely see so it’s just for the cool factor and as MBP said a conversation piece.
The price is no different with it or without and the wiring harness for it is only $28 so why not right ?

I got my whole set up inexpensive and the buzzer is just a relay with one leg not used. I found mine for sale as a relay for something else

that seems awful cheap. I have been seeing them north of 200 bucks. but that buzzer was used in other applications. if you can find some Internatinal big trucks of the 60's and 70's they used them for the low air pressure gauges.

When I get all six barrels open I'm not wanting to read numbers either. My fuel pressure gauge didn't come with a warning, sounds like a good idea though. Although when all six are singing I think my fuel level gauge will need the warning first!!!

All very interesting. I don't have a warning on my speedo. But I do have a low fuel warning light!

I tried to attach a short video of the fuel gauge on my earlier post but it was too long. Forgot I had posted it to YouTube, here’s the link…
As there’s no pressure at startup it he’s red and flashes until it detects more than 3 lbs.
You can see how that’d get you attention over a buzzer being drowned out by the exhaust note at speed.
Note: The gauge is an electronic not mechanical gauge using a sensor mounted in the line above the fuel pump. The new gauges are nice in that they provide their own ground wire to the gauge which makes sense as you can’t lose ground by using Teflon sealant. That was a problem with trans temp and similar gauges.

I’ll add that I’m glad I posted this as I wasn’t aware that there was additional pieces needed to make this work beyond the small wiring harness.
Buzzer and adjustment cable aren’t mentioned from the sellers . I’m going to have to look thru the AIM manual and NCRS guide again.

New replacement buzzers are still available for cheap. The NOS stuff seems to be made of gold and imo is for those sticklers that need the right paint marks and such. If it plugs in properly, bolts up as it should and works as it should then it’s fine. Not like I’m sticking my head up under the dash to search for that proper ink mark.

All you need is the buzzer/ relay, the harness and the cable that sets the speed needle

I did my digging and found what I need from the AIM manual page 395, U15/A1.
Using the GM part #’s which are also the same for ‘68-‘69 Camaros everything including the cable is available! The speedometer $280, buzzer is about $50, the wiring harness $30, and the cable $40 .
It’s all available.

If you cross reference the GM #’s they are the same.

Someone is going to buy all the Camaro cables, relabel them Corvette and add the Corvette tax. They will be available for $85 soon
