I've watched a half dozen YouTube videos about adjusting T-Tops on a C3 and not one of them is any help. I just installed new weatherstrips.
I used to run a Pontiac service department and I remember there being a GM training class exclusively for adjusting T-Tops on Firebirds. Does anyone know of a worthwhile video or written instructions on properly adjusting the C3 tops?
Thanks in advance!
2025 C3 ('68-'73) of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Mine came with glass tops and I wanted a set of hardtops also. After having them painted I removed the headliner, loosened the mounting bolts on the latches and the bolts on the guide blades, set the top on and moved the top around until properly centered. Tighten the bolts, installed new Velcro tabs on the panel attachment points and all's been cool.
Mine were way, way out of wack when I bought my car. And leaked like I didn't even have a roof at all!
several attempts at adjusting them and new weatherstrip. Then I followed the instructions in the factory service manual. Spent about two days mucking around. Several different shims in the center, etc. Now they only leak a little, and the fit is much better.
To those few out there who swear their T tops don't leak, the rest of us hate you!
When I bought my Vette many years ago the tops leaked like a sieve and there was 4 inches of water on the floor. After much cleanup, replacing much of the interior and repainting the car I redid the weather stripping. My roof doesn't leak, but I do cheat a little. I keep the car in the garage and if it looks like it is going to rain I don't take it out. I have gotten caught in the rain, but since it doesn't normally sit outside I don't have a problem with it leaking. The only place I see any dripping is at the upper rear of the windows, but it isn't bad enough to worry about. Get more rain inside just opening the doors to get in or out.
