You guys are all big talk on the forum that your wives probably never read.
My wife and I have the perfect relationship.
She is happy I have my hobby and she has hers.
I have built numerous cars, boats and motorcycles over the years.
She is supportive when I constantly complain about the high cost for parts, paint and the amount of time that goes into restoring and making this Corvette perfect.
I do start every morning asking my wife what she would like to do today and if she needs me to do anything for her.
Keep in mind our landscaping is always beautiful, I repair anything that needs doing around the house, help with the laundry, the cooking when she allows me and we have other hobbies and interests that we share before any work is done on the Corvette.
The Corvette comes after everything else!

You and me both brother. It’s give and take like that around here too. Does make for a great marriage. I feel for those who don’t have that.
when the expense outweighs the car value, it’s time to dump it and find something more sensible just my opinion
Maybe I'm reading beyond face value. Do you mean the expense as in ruining a relationship? If, so, then totally agree. Would take my wife over the most drool worthy car ever. If not, I defer to OldCarBum's words.

hunh....Only took me about an hour (many years ago) to conclude garage is my safe place.....serenity now.
REgarding questions about money or quantity spent...respond with something like..."Well how many pair of shoes (or clothes) do you need?
Told my wife from day one about the Harley...literally....."you go before it does". same for the vette but she loves that car.
My 69 was a TOTAL...and I mean TOTAL bastard case when I bought it. I am still working so the restore is taking time to get it back on the road. 3 years in and at least another to go. There will be endless work after that. This car will never be "finished" in my lifetime....but I cherish every minute working on it.
and shows me we're nation wide, LOL....
My sweety of 42 yrs understands my requirement for shop time and doesn't begrudge it. The inside of the house, save my recliner and little laptop station, is hers and as long as I keep it working I'm allowed in it, LOL.
The detached shop, on the other hand, is my domain and being such she has no desire to venture within it's environs unless requested and in those rare cases she doesn't tary.
She enjoys riding in the C3 but knows it's nowhere near being "restored" so the time & $$$'s I put in it is never questioned except, she does require equal expenditures be invested in her projects so we compromise and meet in the middle.
So I agree, theres no right answer.....
On thing I think my wife likes as we attend small and big car shows is the time I get to talk with fellow hotrodders that are interested in my mostly LS swaps. She goes to all the shows with me. We don't typically stay the whole show time. We leave early and go for local cruise on the way home.

Yeah it has been good. The Mustang goes into the big snooze until next spring. But I still get to drive my 98 Wrangler with a LS6/4L60E swap pushing snow off the driveway. Its nice to push snow while the heat is on and a cup of coffee in the console.

Back in 2003 I took my wife to the Corvette dealer as she needed a new car. Of course she fell in love with a new 50th Anniversary coupe right away. I said I would pay $5K down for her if she would make the payments. Made it easy for the next three being for me (sequentially of course). She likes me working on the '68 in the garage as long as when I hear "hey Honey would you please"...and I then do whatever she wants.
Yes spent way too much money on my cars but it kinda evens out for the furniture, purses, shoes, dresses, etc. she likes to buy. Garage is not bristol (boat talk for shipshape) but it has a big TV, cold beer in the refrigerator, and lots of tools....so I am in heaven.
It's a good life regardless what the politicians and media say.
