I broke my old girl out last weekend and about halfway home my steering went hard as hell. She's a 1976 Stingray, almost entirely original with 350. I bought a power steering belt for it, realized that it has been 2 weeks since ordering, checked on it and it was on perpetual backorder. I'm doing some looking and cannot seem to find one, and there are many results apparently for a 1976 car... I do not have the original so I cannot measure it, can someone point me to a source that could get me the correct belt? Sorry to be such a dummy, but this one seems to be defeating me....
EDIT - when the steering went hard, i pulled her into the garage, put her up on the lift and saw there was no belt on the power steering pump, etc.... I left that part out, sorry!
15360 is the part number, it’s pretty standardized among brands. Most of your automotive parts stores should have or be able to order one.
Better that the belt magically disappeared rather than your pump reservoir going dry. That’s a much harder and more expensive fix. I would make sure you have adequate tension on it when installing the new one though.
