Default Carpet under sill plate

Does anyone have a photo on how far the carpet extends under the sill plate? I am replacing the carpet in my 1969. Thanks in advance.

Gezz, never thought to take a photo. But, a bout 1/4 of the way on top. From the inside if that makes sense. So, just around the corner to the top flat side. Approx 1/4 of the way, certainly not even.

Here is a picture of my 69 when I was working on trying to put my dash back together. Hopefully I will never remove the dash again. The carpet is not the factory carpet, I replaced it a number of years ago, but as I remember it is about the same as the factory. The blue tape was to hold it in place as I was sliding in and out of the car. I removed it before reinstalling the sill plates.

You really should leave a good bit of carpet underneath the sill plate. Having a few extra inches can Hurt. Remember that once you cut the carpet you can’t add it back. I left mine so it goes almost the width of the sill plate, never hurts to have extra carpet for Shrinkage or fitment issues.

It "can" hurt?

That's the way I remember and replaced my '72 carpet: about 1/2" to 1" from the sill plate screw holes.

Thanks again for all the responses. I was worried if I had too much carpet under the sill plate it could interfere with the door closing.

I'd be more concerned about the sill plate itself fitting properly.

I have had to do some trimming on the kick plate to fit the sill plate properly. I have NOS sill plates so I assume they are the proper size.
