Haven’t had any luck searching the FS ads. Guy near me is thinking about selling these. They’re in pretty good shape compared to many I’ve seen. He’s one of those “make me an offer“ type of guys, which drives me nuts because I’m a lowball type of guy, which tends to **** people off. What’s a fair offer?
Can you tell if these are GM covers or repro? I'm thinking repro covers won't have the GM 8 or 9 digit part number on the back of the pieces. What is the state of the chrome on the leading and trailing ends of the covers? Original covers get pretty ratty looking from stone chips and poor chrome adhesion over time.
For pricing, look at the cost of a new set of repro and adjust according to condition. (I know... not the specifics you were probably looking for.)
You have lived without them for some time. He has had them hanging around for SOME TIME. Take your lowball offer and add $200. That would be a starting point.
For reference, a repro small block set with all necessary hardware goes for $3800-$4000.
I’m not sure if they’re original or repro but there is no peeling or bubbling in the chrome, few light scratches and stone chips. What would someone pay for a driver quality set that doesn’t need rechromed?

Edit. Yes they are. Been on Marketplace for a little while. He is asking 1k. That is a great price if the condition is what you say as long as the inner fiberglass shields are in good shape. Those alone are expensive.
I deal with make an offer people very bluntly. Say this.
-I don't bid against myself. Do I look like E-Bay ?
-Whatever I say you're going to counter with a higher number regardless of how reasonable I am.
-Here's my phone number. You own the stuff, when you figure out what you want for them give me a call
-Goodbye

That’s blunt for sure. Out of ego I would say pack sand, or not even respond. Honey vs vinegar. You are dealing with humans and have no idea what they are going through, what their situation is.

Same here. I can't stand when someone lists something for sale, but doesn't give you a price. I avoid them like the plague.

Yeah I have no patience for people who insist on an offer. They are so worried about possibly missing out on a dollar theyre afraid to say anything.
When I deal with these guys I either give. Ridiculously lowball offer and say, “well you wont tell e what they cost.”
Or just say, I dont plan to both buy them AND sell them for you.
If he can't get $1000.....offer $750 and see what he says. You can't be far off. I might hold firm at $800 and walk away after offering your phone number in case he changes his mind. That's got to be close to the zone. Great pieces.

Assume they were sold? Don’t see them advertised on MP anymore. Hope you got them.

See this separation. that means the fiberglass insulator is broken and needs to be repaired or you need a new insulator. Paragon used to sell them for $350 a piece but they arent around anymore...I will look and see if I can find a vendor but they are atleast $700.
THen you have to figure in pitting of the chrome which is very expensive to fix. I wouldnt give much for the pipes since they are probably only 2 inch pipes. Theres better more modern pipes available but these are only worth about $250.
See them in person, take good pics of them so we can see the chrome as well as the inside insulators and post them here
