I’m curious as this is probably coming a lost art,but looking for a shop nearby, within 200 miles, that can rechome my original bumper,it’s on my 1972 GTO,I live in SC, I’m 2 hrs from Charlotte NC,and 2 hrs from Columbia SC,so looking for someone that’s very reputable,my old on is perfectly straight,no rust or even scrapes, but several places,I call spider webs,so I want them like a mirror,I can get a aftermarket one and suppose to be heavy duty like original not a piece of tin,lol....$750, that’s triple plated, with a 5 year guarantee.from NPD,which I have bought from before, with no problem.
There are several platers in the Charlotte area. Call them and ask about triple chrome plating. You are far better off rechroming the original, provided no significant rust.
i just got my chevelle bumper back from tri city plating in Tennessee. great work, quick turn around (like a month?). they have been in business forever (like 40-50 years?) the last plater i used local to me was 40 weeks.
I will say this, you wont get a rechrome done for less than $750. expect to be over $1k easy. I've got a bunch of A bodies, and while i will say some of the aftermarket stuff for Chevelles is very good, there is no replacement for a rechromed original.
I’ve heard the platers will set the bumpers to an alignment jig.
I heard you are supposed to tell them not to adjust the bumpers if they already fit good.
