Default 1982 CE Horn Button

Hello All! so in part of my project I need to replace the steering wheel on my 82 CE that is in real bad shape. I see the replacement on Ecklers, Topflight, and Corvette Central, but I don't see the CE horn button anywhere. I checked eBay and I see a used one that looks worn. Any thoughts on where I can get a new reproduction or how I can have mine refurbished? I'm sure others have had to do this at some point. Thanks!

What about this:

Horn Button

Or you can buy the whole thing on ebay, paint it and switch your emblem to it...

This!!!

I saw that option but I wanted to go with the original style CE button.

Thanks for pointing that out that these horn buttons on the collector are rare. I can only find NOS button emblems for $$$ but no button after seeing this post. Yet another oddball item on the Collector that I'll have to take extra care with.

I just pulled my horn button off and looked at the back. The emblem is fastened on with two retainer nuts/clips. If the emblem is removed, you could possible fill in the cuts and scrapes with leather repair filler, re-grain and re-dye the leather, or have a business who knows leather repair to fix it up and match the dye color.

I'm currently trying to figure it out a match for the color of the leather because I want to restore the leather wheel wrap to the original color. I believe the color matches the horn button. Here is a link to a scan of the Dupont color codes for the '82 that show the collector colors. The link shows the colors and their codes in the car, but the sample chip scan is poor and certainly not a good indication of the actual color:

Historical Color Library

I can only guess at the moment that the steering wheel wrap and button are the Dupont D8261J Medium Beige, but I'm not sure yet. Note that the scan says "D8261 SG", but the old forums I've found that discuss the color codes for the interior all end with "J". Not sure what the difference is, if any. Maybe someone knows from experience.

Thanks for that! I will look into removing the emblem and see if I can have it repaired. I think that is my only option if I want to keep the original style horn button for the CE. I'm actually replacing the steering wheel as mine is in horrible shape and if I'm having this much trouble with the horn button refurbishing the steering wheel is may not be cost effective when I can by the replacement CE one. I would buy the horn button too if they sold it. Thanks for the idea!

Right on! Let us know how the horn button turns out!

I'd also replace that steering wheel as well. It would seem a lot to clean it up, re-paint the metal with the special order Dark Brown Metallic paint and then get the leather wrapping service done to it.
