In 1980 I bought my Corvette (dream car) from my dad using a very generous family discount. He was the second owner of the car. It was a 1972 Red in color, Black interior with a White top. The car was a SB 4 speed with a AM/FM radio with no other options. I installed a better stereo system, headers, and an aluminum intake to liven it up. Other than that, no other mods. Unfortunately in 1988 the car was totaled by a senile elderly driver who ran a stop sign at 45 mph and crashed into my front left tire. I was heartbroken since i just had the car repainted and the interior carpet replaced on an already very solid driver car. I had planned on keeping the car and passing it down to a son or daughter someday.
Fast forward, for years I had wanted to buy another 70-72 Corvette Convertible to replace what I had. But life kept stopping me over and over again. For years I took care of everyone else first until I could start looking seriously again in 2023. However, an unexpected roof replacement and car purchase once again stopped me dead in my tracks. On 10/24 I found a car that was to good to be true. A 1971 LT-! with the stock Red exterior, a black interior and new black top appeared. This was exactly what I wanted to the "T". To make it even better the car was located only an hours drive from my home. The car itself was owned by the perfect Corvette owner. He is an aero engineer, which means a cerebral perfectionist on steroids! This gentleman could not have been a better owner of this car. Everything was done by him or the best Corvette shops in a 3 state area, No expense was spared and the car is immaculate. I have 3 booklets of receipts and documentation which includes the tank sticker. The car is just about 100% stock with very few changes (upgraded radiator, added shoulder seat belts and power steering). Being very nit-picky I may replace the carpet if I can find a good replacement to match the quality of the original rugs. As much as I loved my 72, the 71 LT-1 is a totally different animal with the engine upgrade. It rips!
I have already entered 3 car shows for 2025 and look forward to the warmer weather ahead for Sunday cruises. I wish i could have bought this same car years ago but I know I am very fortunate to be able to buy this now!
Super mega congratulations! The back story makes me even more happy for you. I am rest modding literally the same car right now, except it was not originally red (but is now), and has the vinyl covered hard top on it. (Bought off a forum member here) You’ve found yourself what looks to be an exceptional example. I’m envious of the condition and would be very, very happy to have that one to cruise in!!!
Thank you to everyone for the. kind words. Loved seeing your cars as well. Probably most satisfying is the thumbs up and excitement displayed by my son and step son when they went for a spirited drive with me. They had no idea these cars were so fast back in the day and loved the sound and the simple but well designed cockpit. Hilarious was their bewildered look watching me shift the 4 speed! Best Millennial antitheft system out there right now...LOL.
