Default need paint code help 1980 83L red

Can anyone help with specs on the red 83L paint code used on 1980 Corvette? Is this a hard to find 1 year only color?
My painter has mixed up a sample match from a spot on the inside door jam. It looks right from a small sample but I thought it worth trying to hone in on original spec.

What is it your looking for? the color will have formulas in some paint lines and you have a good sample already if it looks good... but a formula will be available in some paint line.
I just made up a small amount for my 82 for a factory paint that the factory bumper didn't match, was pretty good from standard formula (before and after)

Why can't his paint supplier mix it based on the formula instead of relying on a decades old spot?

Looking to replicate the OEM color but in base coat clear coat as that was this car's original color. I found it listed as PPG #3237 at a few other links. Tomorrow I'll let him know what I found.

I'll be glad to see the transformation from a mid-80's Dietzler Radiance (like a candy apple red) that had faded to pink and silver. Got lots of attention, some good, some not so good, in the two summers I've had it. Certainly screamed of patina. Real patina that is.

older "Candy" colors couldn't contain enough UV absorbers in them as they are a dye so they depended on the clear for UV protection and broke down faster depending on clear.
your car was a factory single stage (lacquer) which you wont likely find, a good quality BC/CC formula with the factory paint code will produce a good factory match... my above 82 is factory single stage and I painted the front bumper BC/CC and you wouldn't know it.
