It's a 350/300, 4 spd, white soft top, matching blue hard top, PS, PB, factory A/C, engine stamp matches VIN. Frame looks really good, cage from what I was able to see looks good. He's asking 49k. I plan to go a second time to look in more detail, take it for a drive, get it up on a lift and remove some panels to get a much better complete picture. I was satisfied with what I saw, but was planning to offer less. Now... that Ive dug deeper through my pictures, and found more body-color overspray in several places, I'm expecting some leverage to go even lower. I've been happy with how deep I can dive before settling on a price, or even making an offer. He says he's the second owner and has mentioned "books" that he keeps on his cars and will want to see those. I have good plans for further talks with him, and will absolutely be bringing up the conflicting paint story.
I appreciate the help I've received in just 24 hours so far.
Ok, here's the next paint question. If you zoom in close, I'm sure someone can comment. The whole car looks like this. Kinda eggshell bumpy. Any thoughts on buffing this out? Color looks solid all over, but the texture is somewhat questionable.

Hard to tell from just pics, but the paint looks like it was applied too "dry" so has a rough appearance.
Without seeing more of the car and details, $49k seems about $15k-$20k too high. "Survivor" means more than just worm pedals and stained, faded carpet. A survivor needs to have just about original-everything from interior to engine components to suspension parts to paint. I'm not talking about just the major items like block, heads, trans, and differential — a true "survivor" has the factory-original small pieces like the shocks and tags on springs and engine labels and spark plugs and fuel pump and such... The way it was delivered to the first owner.
Wow so this is a 69 corvette with an impact rear bumper from 73-79, and based on the pictures it needs paint, carpet and not even the BB?? I would run away from this car. Based on what I have seen this is well under 20K unless I am missing something.

I think you've confused the blue '76 in reply #24 with the OP's blue '69 query.

Your right, I went through the post too quick. That being said based on the car that started this thread it sounds really high (49K). Needs paint, carpet, some strange overspray etc. For that money I would expect a better car. That is a base corvette engine. Go to BAT (bring a trailer). you can get some good insights on current car values. Good luck with your negotiations.
I guess this seller thinks anything that hasn't been crushed is a survivor. A nothing special 69 convert with both tops in good condition and with decent paint is worth what? Maybe $35K? One like this one, that looks like it was painted with a bug sprayer, is at least $15K away from good paint. Lots of labor involved in stripping that mess off. Past that, the seller is lying about the overall condition of the car, so that means someone who knows C3's would need to go over it with a fine tooth comb to determine how much more stuff it needs.
Thank you to all who commented. Helped me greatly to open my eyes. I've walked away from this one.
As i mentioned go to BAT (Bring a Trailer) as a guide. For 49K your in the BB and LT-1 price category which are much better cars than a base corvette. I would not touch this car for that price unless it was completely done already. Good luck with your search and keep us posted.
a 2 top 69 with matching numbers, low no rust, factory ac roadster decent paint is highly desirable.
the asking price is not that far off.
but...
anything needing paint is - 40%
non original engine is - 25%
any rust thru = parts car.
good title? good trim tag?
if you require original paint then you are going to be looking for a long time with a thicker wallet.
what % has original paint? what % has good original paint? very low...
but if 50K is in your ballpark, that should get you a much better car.
