Paging Tranz Zam
I did a quick look at a 2002 Trans Am Today and was wondering if you know anything about them.
I'm looking for a newer hot rod I can use as a daily driver, this is a 6 speed, V8, headers, some kind of intake and exhaust... It started after sitting for a long time and sounded great, Interior was good, great stereo, silver paint was OK....75K miles no accidents, T-tops... It's been sitting for 2-3 years, the guy runs a towing/repair business.
I could use an idea of what these things bring on the street and where to go to do some research.
Thanks..

The trunk in a Z06 is surprisingly spacious, though you lose the LS1.

Don't get me wrong, I love my car but I definitely don't want another Vette. I know the C5s and even some C6's are a good deal right now, but I always feel I have to be careful around corvettes. I'm looking for what I'm calling a beater hotrod, something a little newer I can jump in, run down to the shore, park in a parking lot and not worry about some mom bumping it with a beach chair...
Thanks

The 98-02 4th gen TAs are awesome cars. I owned a 2000 Black WS6 for a while. They're extremely easy and addicting to modify, handle quite well for a torque arm suspension car, and who doesn't like pop up headlights? 75k miles on one is nothing. It's barely broken in at that mileage. When I sold mine, it was sitting at 165k and you'd never know. I certainly wasn't easy on it either.
Is it a WS6 car? The most noticeable item will be the hood. 01-02 cars had Speedline wheels, which look awesome. Being a 6 speed car is a huge plus, both on the fun factor scale and holding it's value.
Unfortunately GM screwed up the adhesive used to hold down the B-pillar outter fiberglass shell on the LS1 cars, which causes paint bubbling on them. The chemicals from the adhesive seeps into the material, and there's no way to fix the original piece. Simply sanding them down, body working them and respraying doest work as the chemicals will just attack the new paint. Guys will get the pillar trim from an older LT1 car, which never had the issue. It's not a huge deal, but you'll see little imperfections if it's the original piece. It didn't bother me on my car.
As for value, the market on LS1 4th gens has been steadily rising. Like everything, it starts with the super low mile and rare color cars, but we're now at the point where cars under 100k miles are worth decent money, especially 6 speed cars.
I wouldn't think twice about the fact it's been sitting for a couple years. Throw some fresh fuel in it, check the tire pressure and start racking up the miles!
