I quit thinking about it, took the plunge, and bought an old Vette ('77) that needs some work. Done a few things to it - got it running! I installed a new radiator but bit so confident on hooking up the fans. Anyone hear of a good mobile mechanic in MD (Bethesda area) who might come to my house (paid of course) and help me with next project?

Welcome to the forum!

You might be able to get some better results posting a thread in the regional (Northeast) section on the forum.

77’s only came with one mechanical fan, are you trying to hook up electric ones?

Yes, exactly! I have watched lots of videos and see how to do it, but when I get down under the hood, it is a little less obvious which wires go where. Thanks for the tip! I will go to the thread you recommended. Really appreciate you helping out a first timer.

I installed the Painless Fan Relay kit last year. The previous owner was running a Haynes Fan Relay kit, and it was overheating.

Fan power, I came off the starter. Bought a #4 AWG stranded battery cable from Napa, cut to length and crimped my own connectors on.

I installed that cable to a splitter busbar. So I have the options to tie more electrical stuff on later.

For ground, I found a hole in the frame. Wire brushed it, added dielectric grease and ran a cable to another splitter busbar.

Power for the relays comes off the wiper motor power wire. So when you remove your car keys the fans turn off. You would drain your battery if wired this to like a radio clock or so.... the fan would run until the thermostat shut off the fans.

Thermostat... you can either install a radiator thermostat or engine block thermostat. The radiator thermostat is a rod that you push through your radiator fin. I went with the engine block thermostat, figured it might give me a more accurate temperature reading.

It's not that difficult. Use napa for cables. Order your connectors, crimper and busbar from Amazon. And remember to didconnect the car battery when working.
