I might be replacing the clutch in my 72. Right now there is a Zoom OEM replacement in there and works fine. I may have to replace the flywheel and might as well change the clutch as well if it needs to be changed. Engine is a ZZ502 with a M22 behind it. Something reasonably priced.
What is wrong with your flywheel ? Ring gear ? If you replace the flywheel , I would definitely replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing at same time. I don.t remember which one I bought but it was about $200 for the flywheel and another 150 for the clutch. etc. Do some research online after you choose a couple of brands.

The starter grinds. I checked the flywheel and it looks fine. I bought another starter to see if it is the starter. If this one also makes noise I will have to check the flywheel again and then go from there. If I have it apart i will just replace everything. I honestly don't think the clutch is bad it really has no miles on it and it wasn't abused.
That was a really good post… I got a lot out of it and certainly worth the read.
I am a real proponent of using NOS parts, but real GM clutches haven’t been available in decades. I’ve used Centerforce in the past, but have run into some issues discussed in the above post. On the recommendation listed in the post, I went with McLeod for both of the cars that I am restoring (1969 and 1970). Once I get the car(s) back on the road, I’ll report with my experiences.
For whatever its worth, I run a RAM brand replacement clutch. Reviews on Summit's site were positive. Fair price. Looks like stock original. Fit like stock original. Pedal is much lighter than original. Running it now for about 5 years. Works great, holds great.

same here. I believe the one I purchased was in their muscle car line along with a billet flywheel. Nice quality parts.
I have a CenterForceStage 2 Clutch in my "built" 427 and it works okay. The pedal feel is light and it still has great holding power. The holding power increases as does the engine speed. I was terrified about buying a clutch because a buddy had a Mustang GT that came with a five speed which had a "two foot" clutch pedal because the force to dis-engage was ridiculous.
The pedal feel on my Centerforce clutch is very smooth and the engagement is as well. It has never broken loose or had any ill affects on my C3 for the years of service it provides. It has been one of the better clutches I have ever used in a car. I will keep using them if they keep making clutches like this one I have now.
I would recommend another Centerforce clutch to other Corvette owners.
Some people have had good luck with the Centerforce clutch.
I didn't. I had severe vibration when I installed a Centerforce.
The weights would not center themselves but would instead sling off center causing an imbalance.
I went to a McLeod clutch and no vibrations.
Just my experience.
I suffer from "while I'm at it" disease. As long had the tranny out, I upgraded my aftermarket LUK clutch and went with a McLeod Street Pro kit. Flywheel was original but I had it ground and balanced. Then as long as I had gone this far, decided to get the assemble balanced together. The race shop added alignment marks on the clutch and the flywheel for me so I could put it back together exactly how it was balanced and tuned. I did considerable research before going with McLeod Street Pro. My car will never see a 1/4 mile track so what I bought works perfect for me.
I've had other cars with McLeod clutch assemblies. Really happy with McLeod so I did it again on this car.
I have a McLoed twin disk clutch in my BB. I bought a twin disk in anticipation of driving the car when I 'm elderly. The idea being that a twin disk should be softer to push with my left leg and still offer more clamping force than a single disk. I've never driven the car yet.
