Parking brake console
Hi all,
I finally decided to take care of the cracked parking brake console. I purchased the Al Knoch and see how much heavier and stronger it feels than the stock thing plastic. And the vinyl wrap looks alot higher quality.
The downside to this is that it’s very thick compared to stock and I’m struggling to get a decent fit. I trimmed the excess overlap, ground out a little of the inside, adjusted the back metal bracket and so on.
Anyone do one recently have some ideas. Next step is to buy the Corvette America one, that appears more like the original.
The front console (gear shift and cigarette lighter portion) would not mount the same as when the car was new 50 years ago. Plastic and vinyl wraps don’t like heat and being taken in and out over their long life. I had to move the rear metal support bracket toward the radio (maybe because my rug was new). I used my Dremel to elongate the stud holes so the brake console would fit. It’s so tight that I didn’t need the “impossible to reach bolt” located in the cubby hole. You have to be extremely carful as the attachment studs glued to the inside of the brake console are just waiting to come off. Epoxy doesn’t hold them, I used some plastic glue from HD.
