Default Leaf spring replacement question

I have a 1976 C3 and I replaced the differential cover with cracked off lobes with a new heavy duty one and a new leaf spring. I have noticed the center pin in the leaf spring does not recess all the way into the hole on the dif cover and the leaves do not sit flush. Is this a problem? I've never done this before and don't want to make a mistake. If it isn't correct is there a way to correct this? I included photos just for example and are not my actual parts.

Should be a strip of fairly thick rubber. Insulates the spring from the cover. Helps reduce noise AND, fills that gap.

Is the problem the depth of the hole or the diameter of the hole?

I had the same issue on my '77, when I replaced the spring with new from Eaton Detroit. Compared the bolt head to the old one and it was taller. I ground a little of the top, so there was no gap between the spring and cover.

Your instincts are correct. It does need to fit in the hole so the spring is flush against the housing. I have had to do a little grinding on the head of the bolt, too.

Thabk you all, I ground down the pin to the same height as the old leaf spring and it fits like a glove and is now in perfectly.
