Default 1979 won’t start for two days, then does

I have a 1979. It usually sits in the garage on a trickle charger during the week and I take it out for cruise on Saturday. When I tried to start it on Saturday, it cranked but wouldn’t turn over. I tried again on Sunday, same thing. I got home from work today and tried to start it and it fired right up. What could cause that?

How long are you cranking it for? It could be that the carburetor is drained of fuel and needs to be primed or cranked so the fuel pump can get fuel up to it.

A decent amount of time. I don’t know much about cars but I looked at the carburetor when I pressed the gas pedal and could see gas shooting in.

Ya might have had it flooded. I wasn't there of course so just speculating. Seems a lot of younger people are not familiar with carburetors. They get the engine flooded and have absolutely no idea what to do next.
waiting a couple days would clear it. So would holding the accelerator pedal to the floor whilst cranking it. Even better with air filter lid removed and choke jammed open.

What is your initial starting procedure?

After a week of sitting (or even 6 months), I push the gas to the floor twice to reset the carb, then crank with my foot off the gas. Both my 80 and my 79 start easily this way.
