Default Spare Tire Size??

Guys
I'm looking to replace the spare tire that came with my car 1969 Coup. Stock OEM size is 205/75/15, my question is, will a 215/75/15 fit in the spare tire carrier? I put cooper cobras 245's on all fours, that size is to wide to fit in tire carrier. What sizes are you all using on your spares that fit in tire carrier?

Some adjustment of the carrier is possible. For the spare, thinner is better to fit in the carrier but you should check that your diameter roughly matches that of your mounted tires.

If your tires are not too too wide, you can simply loosen each of the two forward bolts ( the ones closest to the differential) that will give you a few more inches for a wider tire. My 73 has standard size tires and I purchased a 5 th tire to put in the spare (carrier). I used a floor jack to raise up the carrier + tire, so that the long captive bolt at the license plate could be screwed In. There was no way I could lift the tire/carrier up, and get the bolt started, same process for lowering the tire carrier.

You are supposed to insert the jack handle tang in the slot of the cover if you have to access the tire on the road.
