I deleted my AC too, actually went a bit further and deleted the entire HVAC system. I’ll be getting Vintage Air in the future, but like you say, AC isn’t needed nearly as much in northern climates.
I removed the entire AC harness and plugged the hole in the firewall with a 1 5/8” plastic plug. If I recall correctly I don’t believe I had to cut any wires, just plugged and played out of there.
More than a few hoods have been ruined when AC compressor seal leaks compressor oil OR timing cover leaks oil; then slung onto bare underside of hood.
Eventually, that oil will soak into & through hood fiberglass; will lift paint and prevents successful respray.

Did you just unplug it on the interior side? I don't see a clean break.
As far as spraying the underside of the hood, it has a couple coasts of paint on it and I open it often enough to head off any problems. I love it without the insulation, and I fit the 4" tall air cleaner with about 3/4" to spare.
Not cheap but dry ice blasting is wild. All your grease and oils on anything are gone. Great wipe it clean and start fresh method. Time is money. For under the car too.
Looks familiar. The bolt holes didn’t line up to well though.
You are spot on! Did we discuss it? So… I plan to cut the bolts, adhesive & butyl the plate, then seal the ill placed bolt holes at tne time that I smooth it’s perimeter. Would have been a great value for most if they got those bolt holes correct. But, I’m glad as it made me realize I don’t want no stinkin bolts & nuts sticking out. On the ‘69, I just glassed the entire thing in. Was my first ever workin tha glass! (Yes, that’s a reference to Faith No More)
Leaving the option open is a good idea… more so on my end in hot as can be Florida, vs your typically cooler climate. You can kinda see in this pic of the ‘69 behind the injun. I spent tons of hours filling holes and smoothing stuff. Not sure I’m gonna go that far on this one.
I use blue painter's tape and tin foil. One thing I did not see mentioned here was Vaseline. Once in a while if there's an odd spot you can't easily mask just wipe a bit of that on and spray away. The paint doesn't stick to it, just wipe it off.
Well, it's not as show-worthy as all your posts, but it's much better than it was. I had time to take a bunch of things off and clean/paint/lube and paint surfaces underneath, and added a new aluminum radiator, alternator and some engine parts. Middle left - I deleted the AC (almost useless in Maine), but I haven't decided what to do about the wiring harness, so for now it's just bundled with a tie-wrap out of the way. I might try a small metal cover painted black that'll blend in. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
That filter assembly looks tall from the pic angle, will the hod clear it when closed?

Yup, it's a 4" filter that gives the recommended 3" gap between the top of the carb air horn and the filter cover. A ball of tinfoil is about 3/4" thick with the hood closed. I deleted the insulation to clean up the hood and make room. I also used a carriage bolt instead of the wingnut for a little extra clearance.
