Little Did I Know...
No, this isn't another one of those I hate my C3 threads. More of a love story in more ways than one that started 49 years ago today when I took the keys to my brand new '76 Corvette, a car I started saving for at age 12 with paper route money after getting a life-changing ride in the back of a Sebring Silver '63 SWC in the summer of '70. With the help of my Dad who got a new car loan in his name for what I was short, I was now a Corvette owner at 18. What I didn't know that day was how important it would be in my life. Because little did I know that in the Fall of '79 a cute little blonde who lived in my apartment complex would pull up in front of my garage and say to me "I just wanted to tell you I've always liked your Corvette" Last Friday I celebrated my 44th wedding anniversary with that same blonde. We talked about our honeymoon, 2 weeks spent in Colorado carving up canyon roads in the Vette from the Big Thompson in the north to the Chalk Creek in the south. We both agreed there's no way we could do that again today...
Me and the Vette in '78. Half paid off!
Me and the Vette 43 years after the last payment...
Still an original paint/interior/drivetrain car with 78k now on the clock. I think I'll keep her..
Thanks for reading. Dan..
I thought she said "I've always liked your shoes". Just kidding! Congratulations on your 44th wedding anniversary, you're a lucky man Dan.
All the best to you and Candy.

This reads like the desire you developed from that ride in the '63 SWC going forward influenced you entire life. You learned the importance of setting goals, saving money, the impact your dad and his love can have in obtaining your goal of Corvette ownership, having and caring for that Corvette was able to start a conversation that would ultimately lead to a life partner. You are living proof that owning a Corvette can be a life changing experience. Without your dad your life today could be very different. Congratulations on continuing on the path of a life well lived.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure what to say but thank you! Yup, my Dad was key....I was only $5k short of the $8126 I needed..
And not only that but he gave up his one car garage for the Vette. Because of that I can say I've had a garage everyday for exactly 49 years.
I love that story. I also took our honeymoon a long time ago, (1976 to be exact) in my 67 vert. To the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Many years, many miles and many smiles later, I still have a vette, Actually 2, a C3 and a C6. And still with that same woman, about to celebrate our #49. Life is so good, especially when you have a partner who enjoys the same things as you do. We are very lucky men.
