69 Side View Mirror Adjustments...
Recently my drivers side mirror has begun to sag when driving to the point where I'm just looking at the top of my door. The stem of the mirror is solid, the weakness is at the little ball that goes into the mirror itself.
Question - are there any adjustments available to tighten this up or once it wears is it time for a replacement?
Thanks!
As you can see in the linked thread, the ball is held in by a metal "strap" that runs between two posts. The strap puts pressure on the ball so that it can move, but not easily.
In my case the strap was held on by rivets. Some people remove the rivets and tap the posts so they can put screws in there. I just took a couple thin washers, cut them into "C" shapes and filed them so that they were thinner on the open side. I then wedged them between the strap and the rivets, which increased the pressure the strap puts on the ball. Now the mirror holds its position just fine.
To take the glass off I soaked it in gasoline overnight. I then epoxied it back when I was done.
