69 Shift Console
I had to buy a replacement shift console to replace the 56 year old original console which literally exploded on removal. I incorrectly assumed this would be a simple swap but boy was I wrong! Is there anything more frustrating? Currently having trouble getting the console to fit under the gauge console and can’t recall how the vent controls (non ac car) attach.

I would recommend EVERY screw/bolt from the wiper panel all the way to the parking brake console be as loose as possibe and then wiggle/jiggle everything until it all fits somewhat acceptable. Not a easy task and many others have felt your pain.

I always loosen the center gauge cluster so that it can be “manipulated” to get the console under the radio. There were several tutorials I found by using Google, it works better than trying to search on the Forum. The threaded studs under the radio should be attached to a metal “U” shaped bracket. I use a small socket attached to universal joint, to hand tighten the nut once all the pieces are in place.
