Default How to: Remove corner trim without removing windshield

I'll start with: YMMV and do this at your own risk. It is still possible to crack your windshield.

There are a ton of threads about this and the answer always seems to be: remove the windshield. I removed mine tonight. The secret (as usual) is the right tool: an impact bit.

The narrow shank is there to reduce the shock load when used with an impact gun, but in this case, it lets you get just enough angle on the front screws to break them loose.

Here's the inner screw - this is the easier one to get to.

This is engaged on the outer screw.

You can only back them out a turn or two, but its enough that you can finish removing them with a pair of needle nose.

You can see mine were pretty rusty, but they weren't really seized in there. They broke loose without a ton of torque. This likely won't work if yours are really rusted in place.

Corner mouldings off the car.

Windshield still on:

I tryed to sneak mine out a few years ago.
My insurance bought me a new windshield.
Gave me the opportunity to clean up the windshield frame.
I put them back on with little hex head screws.

I broke my windshield trying. After a few years, the new windshield began de-laminating in a bottom corner. This is so much fun that I think I will do it all over again!

Couldn't you just use an offset? Look like plenty of room.

If the side of the offset, or a regular screwdriver just nicks the glass, it's all over. Your solution works perfectly because the shaft itself is narrower than the actual head of the screwdriver. But I wanted to take out the windshield anyway. Great tip. 2 years too late for me but good to know. Thx.
