Default Need Help with Hyd Lifter ID

I built this engine over 20 years ago and am only recently getting it in a running application. I want to sanity check some of the basics like checking lifter preload and timing, etc. The cam is Lunati 50250 hyd roller, the rockers are Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1320-15, and the push rods are Comp Cams 7174-1. I have photos and info on everything except those lifters. I thought they came with the cam but it was a long time ago, so I am just not sure. I typically took a photo of the item packaging along with the part at install but for some stupide reason I did not with the lifters. They are likely either Lunati or Comp Cams. I would like to be sure because it will possibly factor in the preload spec. Here is a photo o a lifter. Anyone have any ideas about ID or is the lifter brand of no consequence?

My bet would be Lunati since a lot of us buy a package with the cam and lifters together. But at the end of the day I really don’t think it matters.

I assumed that I would have bought them together also. As a matter of fact, I was thinking they would normally come together but I found out that is not always the case. I am thinking i may just put a minimal 1/4 plus turn past zero go with that. I had set them on the stand but the guy who installed the engine told me he readjusted them several times and I should probably recheck them. Thanks for your comments.

Just make sure they are still primed up with oil. Who knows what happens sitting there for so long. Good luck.

I found my old cam card and it recommends 72820 Lunati lifters which is almost certainly what I used. That lifter is supposed to have a preload of .020" to .060". Does that equate to about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn?

I would say 1/4. I think that is what i have used on my engines over the years. Back it off until it makes noise than crank it back 1/4.

So with my timing mark near the zero my number 1 exh appears to be on the base circle and I can turn the push rod by hand. It won't go up and down but is easy to turn, so there is no preload, probably just near zero. The number 1 intake is on a lobe and no movement. Which valves can I adjust while it is in this position? I haven't done this in 20 years and it is hard for me to read print in one of my manuals. I appreciate your help.

Rather than give you the wrong info, send Lars an email and he can set you up with his paper on valve adjustments. V8FastCars@msn.com. He is the GO TO GUY here on the forum for anything that has to do with engines and is a big help. Good luck. It appears we are almost next door neighbors so when you get it running send me a PM and maybe we can meet up.
