I have found a 68 Baldwin Motion 427SS (not GT) that I am ready to put a serious offer on. Joel Rosen certified, Factory Sticker and Baldwin Motion build stick. Mileage is low 35K. Any suggestions on a reasonable offer? TIA
No. That has the headlight mod which was done on all the GTs. The gentleman who owns the one I am going to make on offer on is my brother in law. He is ready to let it go as the no power steering and no A/C is too much for him. It's the L71 which Rosen upgraded to the L89 with a single quad carb. I want to give him the fair amount and not steal it from him.
Thanks for the comeback. I can see plenty of estimates on the GTs (yikes), but there is little to find on the genuine 427SS Phase III cars. I'll think I have a fair price in mind, but just didn't want to underpay family. I am meeting the car hauler Tuesday, so will post pics by next weekend.
That is a great idea, except he is looking to move quickly. We tried to put out feelers a few years ago but the responses came back from skeptics. I understand those responses, but rather than responding to the trolls he decided to keep it. I always told him I wanted a last chance at it if he ever got an offer he was considering, I got that call and it was a serious offer. I told him to add 15%. That should be the end of the story, but I was hoping to find a no kidding value, Anyway, it's mine on June 9th. I will post pictures by next weekend, and maybe someone can give a ball park estimate. If I seriously underpaid, I will make it up to him. If I overpaid, he's family and he deserves it.
Thank you. Nice car and nice history. Looks like an honest seller, as he include the assessment from Joel Rosen that it was not a genuine Baldwin Motion build. I found other car with a similar history that were called Phase III tributes in that same price range. That was the only one that has a L88 though. This certainly make me feel the price I am paying is reasonable for both the seller and me
Can’t wait to see pictures of this car!
What is the condition of the car?
Do you have the NCRS delivery report showing that it was from Baldwin Chevrolet?
If that is the document that show the base price and options as delivered to Baldwin and the options installed by Motion, YES. Car is in very good condition (my assessment). Minor issues like hood tach inop and wiper door not operating.
If it's what you say it is, and actually documented beyond a reasonable doubt, you better bring a wheelbarrow full of cash and hope it's enough.
Thank you all for the help. I will head up to close the deal on Monday the ninth; the carrier picks it up on the 10th and it will be in my garage probably that night. I'll get the pics up as soon as I can. The documentation is tight including the Joel Rosen certification. Again thank you all.
I promised pics, but it looks like there is a sticky to post my yellow car there. I added some of the documentation which calls this the first Phase III produced, I guess I got a bit lucky. If you have April 69 version of the Speed and Supercar, it's the one on the cover. Thank you to all who helped me asked the right questions. Cheers.
WOW. You hear lots of stories, most of them turn out NOT to be true. Congrats on your find and for doing your due diligence . Truly an exceptional example of a true muscle car/corvette.Once you come down from Cloud 9, how about some more pictures.
Notice when they first finished the car it has the factory chrome side view mirror. The sport mirrors were added later on probably when they were ready to sell it.
Love to see them. I have a Tales of Motion book signed by Joel on the cover and page 100 where he is stepping into the car. The previous owner (my brother in law) had the car certified, and Joel told him to buy the book, send it to him and it would be worth the effort. The book was returned with the signature.
