On my 73 the nose piece emblem I have noticed that it is the exact one that should be on a 73 except it is not red. Mine is silver where it should be red. Now before anyone says it is the 78 silver nose piece it is not the 78 anniversary emblem. Mine is exactly like the red one in everyway but it is silver instead of red. Looking at pictures of other 73 models I have noticed a few do have the have the silver one also but 95% have the red one. Can anyone help with info on this. I have found no nose emblems that are silver at parts places.
I wasn’t aware that there was a red Lens covering the center flags. This could be my answer. Not with car right now but if the red lens covers the flags then you’ve answered my question. Waited till retirement to get my first vette so I’m still learning about it.

when Ii purchased my '74 a 1/3 of mine was missing so it was 2/3 red and 1/3 chrome
The 73-74 nose emblem is what I guess you would call cloisonne. The red starburst, plus the red, black & white in the flags are all plastic set into the emblem over the chrome base. The colored plastic falling out of these emblems is a common problem with them both original GM ones and the repro's.
I had seen a post where a guy painted the red background on the OEM front emblem. I found an art store that sold the type of porcelain red pint he used, and it wasn’t cheap. Even taking my time the emblem, it looked like something a 12 year old model builder had painted. I bought a restoration emblem from Corvette America (now Top Flight) and it looks very good, the one I painted is mounted on a wooden plaque located in my garage.
