Default Starter ?

I have a Remy starter I found in some parts I had stored. It is a 25365. I currently have a 68 Vette but the engine block is a 1970 454. Has anyone used one of these in a similar application? I am finding reference table info that are all over the map and I would rather rely on an informed, experienced opinion

such as is frequently found here.

Near as I can tell, that 25365 delco remy starter motor has straight across bolt mounting holes. 1970 BB used staggered bolt mounting holes.

The reflection of the picture appears to be a staggered bolt pattern, but hard to discern, and it is a high torque version. Eye it up with the present one.

Bingo. That's the kind of gold I was looking for. Thanks.

As stated above, the bolt holes have to be oriented the same as the block.
If they are, the parts books show the same replacement starter (1108788) for a bunch of big blocks from '65 to '74. What are the stamped numbers to the left of the rebuilt sticker? That's the number to search for applications -- looks like 1108361(?).

It is 1108367 followed by a 9 C 7

That was a widely-used small block starter across a number of GM models. The number was superseded in Sept. '79 by 1108366 and then that one by 1109597. The 9C7, if I remember correctly, is March 7th of '69 or '79.

The '68 427 originally used #1107365 while the '70 454 originally used #1108400 (4spd) or #1108429 (TH400). You can see from the parts catalog page above that the replacement # indicates the starters were very interchangeable across the big blocks.

I have the original 327 350 hp engine for this car on stand by. So that starter may be a good one for that. As a matter of fact it may have been purchased for that engine years ago. Would you read the 9 C 7 as 1969 March 7th or 1967 March 9th? BTW, I misspoke, it is a 1972 454 block, not a 1970.

Boy, I really misspoke on the above when I said it was used across GM models -- I was still looking at 1108361. The 1108367 was used for '70-'72 on a 307 for something or other and after that it's a dead end for me. The 8367 number was superseded as mentioned.

(A '70 should have a 350 rather than a 327; 1968 was the last 327 Corvette.)
I'm pretty sure the year comes first, but others will point out my error if not. With the catalog listing for '70-'72, I think it's a 1969 date.
