Default Steering shaft wires

This is on my 1981,I pulled the long group of wires on bottom of steering shaft column,I took them a loose to inspect them, all is ok,but now can’t get them to clip back in place, wires are in the way,any recommendations, and it’s in place,so not like it’s out the car,I see it clips on the sides, but the wires on the back side want let me squeeze it enough to clip it.

Can you see the electrical "pins"...
if one of them is slightly bent you won't be able to snap the connectors together.

I have had to take a couple long thin screwdrivers and move problem wiring aside to snap connectors together.

I had to get a restoration turn signal board ( goes inside the steering column). Wilcox had a step by step guide that had you remove the pins from the “harmonica connector “ to pull the wires through the column. The new connector had EXTRA slots for more pins (restoration parts are never the same) and the caused the new connector not to be centered like the OEM harmonica connector. My guess is your car has a replacement turn signal board and the new harmonica connector will need to be mated without being centered. Get a bright light and look closely at how both connectors mate. Good Luck, it’s no fun working down there. 😬😬😬

To remove the wire & terminal from the connector housing the terminals locking tab MUST be pushed down, then the wire & terminal will slide out...
You need to re-bend the locking tab UP just a little so it clicks in the connector housing...
Another thing, I have seen connector housings where the slot (Locking Tab Slot) from one cell to another may be 180* from the previous...Something to look for.

Here is a pic of my 78. You need to have the plug itself lie flat against the clip with the wires going up and down against it. I am not sure how to describe it so maybe my picture will help.

If you loop one half of your plug wires around the back side of the shaft, then come up underneath, it should align properly.
