You might have just bought at an opportune time...... but really. Just wait till it all falls out.

yeah I heard of that “Lenon’s law” I hope it passes, it sure going to come in handy. Haha

Hello corvette crew!
I have another question, that hopefully someone can help figure this out.
I recently change the power steering pump and the front steering, keeping the original mechanism it had before. When I put everything back a sound became more apparent, it now sounds like the fan blades are hitting something. However, I check these and they seem fine to me.

I used a long metal wrench to help diagnose where the sound could be located at, but it is hard to point out where the sound is coming from.

my theories:
1: could it be that the tensioning on the power steering is too tight? Or belt is bad?

2: harmonic balancer gears could be worn out?
I attached a short video that shows this sound.

thanks again,

For the widest audience, upload your video to YouTube and paste the link here. Many folks don't have the ability to play .mov files or don't want to risk a virus opening an unknown file. I uploaded it to my channel but will delete if you'd like.

Are you referring to the irregular click? I doubt it's the fan blades hitting something though I'd check to be sure all of the different nuts and bolts for the fan and clutch are snug.

Next would be to remove the belts on the different components, one by one, to try to narrow down what it could be.

Thanks for doing that!
I’ll do that next time, still learning how to use this haha

Yeah, I’m referring to the irregular click.
yeah I’m gonna have to do that, I have a feeling its one of the belts.

Welcome to the Forum!

Your car says SPEC because it was ordered special, and then painted black (not sure if it came in primer, or what). For some reason, black was not an available color from 1970-1976.

It is one of the best colors, though! I hope you enjoy it.

As for exhaust/mufflers, this Forum has bunch of fellow inmates of California who can guide you in the ways of CARB. You might want to start a new thread specifically asking about a dual exhaust setup for California.

Fortunately, GM started painting Corvettes black again, including my 79.
