Default Power steering belt routing

Perhaps a silly question, i am ordering a power steering belt, I have two options... 1. I can run a 35" belt around the crank pulley and PS pump pulley or 2. I can run a 44" belt around the crank pulley, water pump pulley and PS pump pulley.

I find both configurations on line and both belts options available... is there any advantage/disadvantage to either routing?

On my 68 I ran the short belt but only because my other pulley grooves were taken up with a/c and alternator. Haven't had an squealing or other problems (well, since I went to BRAND Name belts) but I would have run the long belt if I had a groove available.....but that's when I added a/c I was out of grooves and I was making adaptations to make things work.

Thanks... I do have the groove available on both the crank and water pump... I will likely just run the longer one around all.

If you run the longer belt all the way around, you may have issues with PS pump cap / dipstick removal.

A longer belt really isn't needed. And the more belts on the waterpump, the more strain on the W.P. bearing.

The shorter P/S has more belt to pulley contact area.
