I have done it. You will need to drill 2 new holes plus an access hole for the wires. You will most likely also have to cut an access opening inside the door because you will need to get your hand in there to tighten up the nuts. There is a metal strip inside the door for the OEM mirrors to attach and not pull thru the fiberglass. You can catch one or two of the studs in that metal, but not all three. The most difficult part was locating them on the door so that you had good rear visibility. I will get some pics as soon as I get back to the car and I think I have the wire colors and their functions, if I can dig it up. But I was definitely happy with the mod.

It just so happens that the car is apart waiting for paint and I am sitting herre waiting for a call, so here are the pics
On the driver door

I had to cut away some of the metal to get the nuts threaded. You can see the 3rd stud that misses the metal. I just put a fender washer on it

Front stud 6 1/2

Front stud 6 1/2" from front of door, 1 1/4 down, second hole 1 1/4 down also
Just lay the gasket on top to get the third hole. As said, this was the hardest because none of the OEM holes lined up enough to place the mirror to make sure it was in the right place! The red marks are the filler in the the door from my first version, which didn't give me the rear view I wanted. . And here is the wiring

I don't know what switch you are going to use but someone graciously put a Ford mirror switch note on this diagram ( Can't recall where it came from). I was using a joystick and switch from a C4, which was another nightmare for my project. I hope this helps.

Hi there Bill from Australia here, I have just converted my 1982 C3 and installed the C6 mirrors . The 1982 already had electric mirrors from new and I was wondering if I can just use the mirror adjusting toggle switch that is in the car already rather than getting a new Ford switch? Cheers Bill
