82 Hood alignment bumpers

When you purchase new ones they come full size. Then you need to cut them to the height needed to properly support the hood where needed. I'm lucky I've owned mine all these years. But when I put on a custom hood. I had to go through the whole process over anyway as the replacement hood had different needs.
In answer to your question as to weather or not it had them factory. Back in the day when these were new cars and very good slightly used cars. I never seen one without them
however I did once see a car with only 2.

. When the car came back from the 'shop, only two rubber blocks were in place. It has altered the alignment of the hood slightly and I'm often tempted to try top replace the missing items. But, as I know that the hood needed some filling and smoothing I'm reluctant to now put it under the "pressure" of being in effect bent into shape lest the repair doesn't like it! Otherwise I'd be experimenting with new blocks......

Below is the page from the 82 Assembly Manual showing the placement of the hood bumpers. This seems to indicate that there were four used, two per side, but if that's the case it's a departure from previous years which I believed usually showed their use as being as needed? This drawing gives measurements for the placement of two in the left gutter, but looking at your car it appears there's only the remnants of a single bumper ever being installed on it.
The 80-82 bumpers have a slot molded into the bottom of the bumper to allow it to slip onto the gutter, and also a metal bracket molded into the bumper with a hole that a standard rivet goes through to secure the bumper to the side of the fender (not into the gutter itself).
I am the original owner of an 81 that only came with one bumper, toward the front of the car in the right (passenger) side drip gutter. The picture below was taken a couple days after I bought the car in November 81. You can see the single bumper in the right drip gutter in this picture.
These two pictures were taken a few years ago. The first shows both drip gutters, with just the single bumper. The second picture is a blown up portion of another photo showing some detail of the bumper's installation itself. These pictures reproduced smaller than I anticipated, but hopefully you can make out how the bumper is slipped over the gutter and riveted to the inner fender side.
The 73-79 and 80-82 bumpers were installed to fit the hood to the top fender surround, raising it where needed to improve the fit. They were not intended to cushion the hood when closed.
