Members,
I’ve read most if not all the threads on tires, I have been trying to determine the age of my BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s. Researching previous owners came up with no help. I did not find a DOT number on the sidewalls. Numbers but no explanation.
What am I missing?
My wife has amazing eye sight. It took us several minutes to find it, two days ago. Take pictures of every square inch of that tire. It'll be easier to see on your phone.
It'll be like an oval or rectangular area with a 4 digit number. And yes, most likely on the back side.
It'll read the week, like 23, or 51 and then the year. Like 12.
So if it reads 2312. 23rd week of 2012. You need new tires.
Look for DOT then a whole string of letters and numbers. The last 4 indicate the 2-digit week and 2-digit year. If there are only 3 numbers then the tire is pre-2000.
Look on the back of the tire and if really old will be 3 digits not 4. 3 digit is 2 digits for week and 1 digit for last digit of year. Example 253, is 25th week of 1983 or 1993.
