Default Muffler question

The mufflers I have on my 76 now are just a bit too loud for me. When I crank it, the initial sound will wake up the neighbors. I would like some that have a little rumble but not much. I know when I buy some I'm stuck with them. Anyone know which ones I would need to accomplish what I'm wanting? And some that don't break the bank also. Thanks!

I forget where, but I once saw where one of the vendors (maybe Flowmaster) had little clips of what each one sounded like. How acurate that would be though may be iffy. I guess it would depend on what you are listening on (speakers, headphones) and the volume. I would expect to lose a few ponies though. Typically, the free flowing stuff is louder and the more restrictive stuff is quieter.
EDIT: Not sure if any of this will help..

I have the 2 1/2" version of these on my '76. Louder than stock but not at all obnoxious...just right IMO...

You didn't post what kind of mufflers you currently have, whether you have 2 or 2.5", dual or not, rams horns or headers, etc. so hard to know where you are coming from... ?

Anything wrong with stock type mufflers?

Good info, thanks!

C8H18: At work right now so not sure what the pipe size is, but it's stock dual exhaust except for the mufflers and I don't know what brand they are. Just purchased the car.

here is my thread with help i got with sound and videos Dynomax Walmart Super Turbo. I get compliments on the tone being just right..not too loud or obnoxious.

I also recommend the clamps in the thread. The OEM crush type clamps make it VERY hard to remove and work on car. and a i use a small amount of Never Seize.

Before I switched to the Ultraflo's I had the Dynomax super turbo's on the car for about 30yrs. they sound good. louder than stock but definitely not obnoxious.

Factory pipe size in '76 was 2 1/4" with two Y-pipes, not a true dual system...

I already have a Nissan and a Buick. Is that ok? The main thing is inside the car. Too loud.
