Hi everyone. I’m trying to troubleshoot my 1979 Corvette. I took it for a long drive and did hit a pothole with my rear wheel. Maybe five or 10 minutes later on a long stretch of road the back of my car felt kind of bouncy and some vibration. Now when I drive it, I can feel the car bouncing that seems to be coming from the rear behind the driver seat. Is this most likely caused a bad shocks?
With your car parked in your garage. Place the palms of your hands on top of that corner of the car and push down firmly. And let it come up. And again as soon as it reaches the top push down. Get it bouncing. Try to get going pretty good.
Then, just pull your hands away.
Does the car continue to bounce?
If yes. Bad shock. If it stops cycling immediately. Not your issue.
Depending on how bad the hit was on the pot hole you can also do tire damage, I wouldn't rule it out. Maybe pull the tire and have a tire shop do a balance on it with load. I know Discount does it. Let us know.
The hit wasn’t that bad. But now just even driving on a smooth road. It just feels like the back of the car is bouncing. I was thinking about taking the rear wheels in to get them balanced to rule that out.
