Default Thanksgiving work/Return Line

I am currently replacing the gas tank and have researched this however maybe I'm missing something. I replaced my engine with a 396 from blueprint and it doesn't require a fuel return line, however the car obviously already has one. If I cap it at the fuel tank, what do I use to cap it? Would a silicone vacuum cap work or do I need something special? I replaced the fuel tank with a match for my year 1968. Identical vented etc. Sorry if this is a silly question, i just can't seem to find a good concrete answer.

Thankful on Thanksgiving for this forum

Matt

If your 68 still has the original steel fuel lines, you can connect the line at the tank and cap it off at the engine side. Use fuel injection line as it is way stronger than regular fuel line. I would not put a vacuum nipple on the tank with a clamp. The nipple is not "fuel proof" and may deteriorate and need replacing. You have to drop the tank to do that. On the engine side, you can use an unvented fuel filter. Jerry

I'm not a fan of Deadheaded fuel systems. Too much of a chance for vapor lock. I would try to use the 68 factory fuel filter that has a return provision or contact Lars to get a picture of the return fuel line he built for one of his engines. ( I used to have the picture but lost it in a computer mishap)

Oh. Would you say order that and swap it in? Blueprint doesn't recommend any return lines when i asked them about it.

What was their reasoning?

They say their engines don't need them and recommended i cap it. They claim " we don't see high instances of vapor lock" and our engines aren't designed with them in mind. If y'all think I would be better off attaching it. I'll figure some way of making it work. 🤷‍♂️.

Cap it off and see what happens. If you have any issues you can always run a return line later.

My son runs a deadhead fuel pump in his 73 Camaro without issues in the Florida heat. I have not been so lucky in the past.
