This is correct.
The assembly stamp/broadcast code was done prior to the heads being installed at the engine plant… The VIN derivative was done on the vehicle assembly line, after the engine was assembled.

I heard the owner of my old 1969 L-89 turned down 300… Good docs (although not as good as this car), great color, real engine/trans/diff, and side exhaust. Wish that I had gotten that much when I sold it!

Yep and if it looks low on the pad it is usually a red flag for big block cars.
