I am prepping my 76' for paint and would like to salvage the original build sticker. Any suggestions that would allow me to remove it and then reglue it when the paint is done? Driver door stickers
The key is to go slooooooooow. Using a razor blade, carefully peel the top edge slightly, then dribble in the remover, let stand for a few minutes, then carefully peel back a bit more, rinse, repeat.
I've had mixed results with trying to save stickers/decals. I use a heat gun with a thin metal scraper or razor blade to remove. For me it's 50/50 if it comes off well. If it comes off in one piece i put it on a piece of wax paper to store it until i'm ready to reapply it. Good luck!
Forgot about trying to save it. The numbers becomes invalid if removed. ECS Automotive Concepts reproduces them. You need to provide documentation. The one that they made for my Cuda is indistinguishable from the original.
I wanted to save my engine compartment sticker, not to reapply it, but just to keep it to help prove it is/was an LT1. I covered it with a few layers of clear packing tape, then slowly razor bladed it off. It was rough to begin with, so what remains is not perfect, but is better than nothing at all.
I do not think you are going to remove it in a way that it will look presentable enough to reapply. More so against nice, new paint.
Just leave the door jamb alone. It looks fine as-is. Maybe touch up the dings as required. I had a full strip-repaint 35 years ago and told him to leave the jambs alone.
I was able to get them both removed with a combo of heatgun, 3M adhesive remover, razor blade, and patience. The build sticker came off in surprisingly good condition and I may be able to reglue it back to the door. What adhesive do you think would work? Both Removed.
