Your cable looks totally hammered. As in Shot. The home made bracket looks like it's already pulled pretty far back. Making me think the rod end of the pedal assembly is bent. Happens sometimes on C3's. Guy press it to the floor so hard they bend the end the cable hooks to on the pedal assembly. But seriously, here's a couple pictures of the original cable on my 77 also with a non factory carb set-up.
